Emulation and Legal Use
PS2 emulators like PCSX2 and AetherSX2 are legal software. The legal grey area is the BIOS file, which is firmware copyrighted by Sony.
We strongly recommend obtaining your PS2 BIOS the legal way, by dumping it from a PlayStation 2 console that you personally own. This is the method officially recommended by emulator developers. Our guides explain how to do this.
